Prerequisites: (104013 or 104014 or 104020 or 104022 or 104281 ) and (104016 or
104171) and (104131 or 104135 or 104285). Introduction to partial differential
equations (pdes). Solution of first order equations. Cauchy problem and
characteristic curves. classification of pdes and canonical forms. Well posed problems.
One-Dimensional wave equation, D'Alembert method. Sturm-Liouville problem, inner
product spaces and orthonormal systems, parseval (in)equality.
Convergence of classical fourier series, dirichlet theorem, derivation and
integration theorems. The method of separation of variables, the heat and wave
equations in a finite interval. Laplace and poisson equations.
The maximum principle and properties of harmonic functions. The Green function.
